Deprived.

I badly wanted needed to take a nap but I was forbidden by the Husband, saying that I have a multitude of tasks to accomplish. Waaah. So there they are, DH and DD, zzzzing while I am trying my best to fight sleepiness and come up with coherent posts.

No thanks to SmartBro.

Hooray for a New Home!

This just got in and we are very excited! My parents in-law finally found a house to call their own! It is a very nice one, as attested by my brother in-law, Ted, who relayed the news to us and with whom we just talked with some minutes ago. He said that we will be spending our Christmas vacation in a bigger house this year! Woot! Repainting and electrical wiring needs to be done too. It’s a big house (considering that we are one big, happy family!) and I wonder if we need to scout for used cheap avaya definity telephone system to communicate with each other. LOL! To say that we are excited is an understatement. And I am grateful to my brothers in-law who made this dream of my parents in-law possible. The house blessing, a nephew/ godchild’s birthday and my birthday will be one big celebration come December 2009 and I can’t wait!

The Saturday that Was

After the dancing engagement of our daughter last Saturday, my husband and I took her to a Chinese restaurant along with my father who drove us to the event. It was a late breakfast since we left early but the program started late. It was not as fancy as a San Diego private banquet dining, but we all enjoyed it. Everyone was full upon leaving. (I wanted to bring home more siomai but I didn’t think it was a good idea considering my weight gain during my break.)

In the afternoon, after my prophylaxis and dental filling, my husband and I went to the same restaurant again(!) and had our late lunch/ snacks there! It was near the dentist’s clinic plus they serve the best halo-halo that I was craving for was that afternoon. Before going home, we walked around for a while, bought more food (yikes) and headed home.

Our daughter stayed at my parents for the weekend so we did not have to cook anything for supper. We had the leftover from our late lunch plus the boiled eggs which was intentionally cooked by my husband for breakfast. I was also craving for green mangoes and shrimp paste and having them capped my Saturday evening.

And the problem now is: how to shed the weight I gained during my 2-month vacation. It will be a stressful comeback for sure. It will somehow help me loose weight. I am keeping my fingers crossed. :D

A Twitterer

I am actually torn between Facebook and Twitter but since I communicate with my online friends through Twitting, so Twitter it was!

You Are a Techie Twitter User
You are very high tech and an avid internet user. You even a bit obsessive at times.
You tend to be the first to hop on trends. You are an early adopter who is ahead of the curve.

Besides being a tech junkie, you also tend to be a pop culture and news junkie.
You're well aware of the world around you... and even a bit of a gossip. You love to be in the loop.

Online Selling and Buying

Are you wondering,

is selling gold online for cash safe

? If you say yes, then you are not alone. I may not have plenty of gold to sell but with the

proliferation of buying and selling of various stuff online, I can’t help but wonder if selling or even buying precious items are safe when I read that Jim Dunn Racing has partnered with Cash4Gold in an effort to encourage fans to generate extra income by selling their old or unwanted jewelries online. Well, it pays to know your buyer first before entrusting your gold to him/ her. Minimize the risk by checking out his/ her reputation and background in the business.

Just last month, I bought a gadget for my mom through a friend living abroad. It helps that I know her well so I can entrust my hard-earned money to her. Aside from that, she has been into the business and have a trustworthy courier. No box or item was lost since she started sending stuff to her clients. We even dubbed her as our personal shopper. She buys stuff for us, her friends, from kitchen utensils to gadgets, to clothes and make- up! And when she celebrated her birthday last month, we, her loyal clients, were invited to a fun online birthday where great gifts were given away! Imagine that, the celebrant giving gifts away on her birthday instead of receiving them. It was one memorable party indeed!

Meet My “Sister”

Aside from working as a government employee, my mom also teaches in two graduate schools and serves as a member of the board of regents of one of the SCUs here. She also serves in the parish and is actively involved in several causes and advocacies. These were her reasons in buying this:
sony vaioIt’s pretty, I know! My laptop pales in comparison to her laptop’s design, the color, even the ddr! It is sleek and smart and fast! I can imagine myself blogging and scrapping using that baby! But then, I don’t think the Husband will ever buy me one. He says that the attractive color is unnecessary. It’s what made the laptop expensive. Yeah right, Babe! That’s why I told my Mom to hand it over to me in case she gets tired of it. And she affirmed. I wonder when will that be. Haha!

SmartBro Rant

It’s been 12 long days and I don’t know if I can still blog. Let’s see. :)

No thanks to my internet service provider, that is SmartBro, I have been offline for 12 days now. I have been calling  their customer service representatives and I have been advised over and over and over again to monitor my connection for 24 years hours. It’s annoying and very inconvenient on my part and all they can give me is their usual “Sorry for the inconvenience and please be patient.” spiel. I have been trying my verrrry best to be patient, for goodness’ sake! And 12 days is such a loooong time! And no, I am not fuming mad because I missed FB or anything. To quote Chikai, we are OFWs too. That is Online Filipino Workers. Haha! And I have tons of work that either expired or about to expire. TODAY. It is sooooo annoying that I want to cry! But that won’t get me anywhere.

So thank the Lord for an understanding and supportive husband. I am currently using his phone as a modem. The connection is not as fast as I need it to but beggars can’t be choosers, right? Moreover, the Husband volunteered to finally visit Smart’s office here in the city. To complain. And buy me a pre-paid, USB-type SmartBro. See. It will still be SmartBro! Simply because if SmartBro s**ks, Globe is worse. Haha!

So please, please, SmartBro. Give me back my connection. I have been a good-paying client of yours. You say that it’s your system that is having problems. Why oh why can’t you fix it right away? Are you asleep? Wake up! Now na! And fix my connection please!

End of rant.

DD Updates

DD is home today because she has not been feeling well since yesterday. She has a boil. Again. It’s like she has one every month for three consecutive months now. I pity her and I know how it feels. *sigh* I have researching about boil and discovered that it’s cause is still unknown. We went to a doctor yesterday who prescribed antibiotics. He explained that yes, boils are recurring and to break the cycle, the patient must be under medication for 14 days. So I brought the prescribed medicine with the hope that this will eventually stop the cycle.

I also hope that DD will feel better soon because Saturday (August 15) is their first exam day. She needs to prepare because she wants to be an honor student. That’s my girl! :) So good luck to her and her tutor a.k.a DAD. :D

Scared!

You Have the Fears of an Adult
Your fears don't paralyze you - they are very rooted in reality.
You have had enough loss in your life to know more is to come, and you dread it.

Compared to most people, you deal with your fears well. They don't ruin your life.
Your fears are strong and very real, but you try to let them go. You know you can't control what happens.

Ted

My youngest brother in-law and I have been having discussions on what to do to our houses when we can afford to buy one. As a 4th year Interior Designing student, he is very much knowledgeable on his field. With him around, finding the best furniture, mounts and fixtures will never be a problem. He knows where to get the best designs and deals. But where to get the money to buy them, that’s the problem!

Aside from knowing the these things, I also admire his creativity. His siblings acknowledge that he’s the creative one among them. And I guess that’s what binds the two us. One of the many things I look forward to when the year ends is seeing him. We don't only share the same interests but we also laugh at the same jokes and stories. Phone conversations with him are never short. He never runs out of interesting anecdotes. Indeed, there is never a dull moment with Ted and I am very blessed to have him in my life.

A Wonderful World

thinkThis photo caught my fancy today simply because the phrase is a part of the song that was played while I was wheeled in to the delivery room more than a month ago. It was a humid afternoon such as now, but I felt so cold inside. And very scared. How ironic it was to be feeling that way and to be hearing those words. To convince myself, no matter how hard it was to believe at that time, that despite of what happened and what was about to happen, the world is still wonderful as God made it to be.

Daydreaming Again

I have been wanting for a grand vacation for my family and myself. You know – overseas, luxurious and fun. Something like one of those Gatlinburg vacations. Did I mention luxurious? Oh I did. Now, someone I know won’t approve of it ever. So all I can is just keep on dreaming. Hahaha

Speaking of Gatlinburg vacations, one of the must-visit family attraction there is the Wild Bear Falls Indoor Water Park at the Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort. Take note, Wild Bear Falls is the largest indoor water park in the south. It has more than 300,000 gallons and 60,000 square feet of wet excitement under a retractable roof that provides plenty of sunshine during those warm summer days like these! It will surely be one enjoyable experience for kids of all ages. :)

Bing It? | What is Bing?

Feedjit is one interesting blogging thing. It gives me an idea where my visitors are coming from. It’s a delight to see readers coming from the different parts of the world.

Recently, I noticed that some readers are arriving from BING. This got me curious. What is Bing?  Thanks to ANC news this morning, I finally learned what BING is. (Yeah, I am that slow. Haha!)

The famous Filipino blogger, Abe Olandre explained to TJ Manotoc in the Tech portion of the news that simply, BING is the replacement of Microsoft’s Live Search. It boosts its ability to include the listing of search suggestions in real time as searches are entered. It also provides a list of related searches (the "Explorer pane" on the left side of search results). Moreover, the ability to Save & Share search histories.

Here’s a screenshot of Bing’s page. It’s a scene in Boracay, Philippines.
bing The big question now is: Can Bing oust Google as the world’s number 1 search engine? Will we be saying “Just Bing it.” instead of “Just Google it.” when asked about something that we are not too familiar with? That remains to be seen. :)

Shopwiki: A Collector’s Haven Too

I was on a blogging leave yesterday to witness the internment of the late President Corazon C. Aquino. Everything that took place, from the requiem Mass offered for her to the final farewell to her by her family is overwhelming. She was one great, remarkable person who made a positive impact in our country and the world. She will forever be remembered.

When we speak of great persons and their memories, we always think of collectibles and memorabilia. Those important things become rare as time goes by. Good thing shopwiki provides a comprehensive list of shops that sell collectibles and memorabilia. Sports enthusiasts can get their hands on rare sports memorabilia like signed balls and cards, autographed photos and even authentic jerseys.

If you are a die-hard Elvis Presley fan, keep his memories alive with Elvis memorabilia. Get his signature look with the traditional Elvis jumpsuit, glasses and even a cape! Adorn your house with stuff like Elvis cookie jar, Elvis posters and more.

Now you know that shopwiki is not only for avid shoppers but for ardent collectors too!

The Blind Side Movie

One of my must-be-seen movies this year is The Blind Side starred by Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw, Quinton Aaron and more. This true story is based on Michael Lewis’ book entitle The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game.In a nutshell, the movie is about a person (Quinton Aaron) who has lived a difficult life on the streets. His fate changed for the better when a rich couple (Sandra Bulloc and Tim McGraw) welcomed him into their home. He was given the chance to become a better person. As a good football player, he earned the honor of All-American offensive left tackle.

The movie is directed by John Lee Hancock. It will be shown on November 20, 2009.

Jessica Darling Series

JessicaDarlingSeriesAside from spending time with my family last weekend, I also got hooked on reading the Jessica Darling series. It was written by Megan McCafferty. It’s a personal narration of Jessica Darling, a smart and athletic student of her adventures and misadventures from high school to college.

It’s tough putting down the books, really. If not for my need to sleep, I would have killed myself slowly by reading the five books without getting some shut eye in between. Haha! Definite and proven, lack of sleep can kill me. I am still on the second book because I have to be a mom, wife, cook, blogger and what-have-yous in between.

Anyways, if you have time and are looking for a good read which is light and funny, try the Jessica Darling series. It’s highly recommended by yours truly.

How to Simplify Your Life

I believe that to live happily, one must live simply. It is a hard but a doable task.

To help us get started, here are six simple tips (reduced from 12) from Zen Habits:

1. Write down your top priorities.
2. Reduce one commitment.
3. Simplify your to-do list.

4. Set aside some disconnected time. (I did this last weekend and it felt really, really great to give my family my undivided attention.)
5. Create your perfect day.
6. Declutter.

Read the complete article HERE.

How To Trick Your Parents to Read You a Book

I am one happy mom blessed with a very witty girl. She can outwit me (and her Dad and others) most of the time.

She loves having someone read a story for her too. But since she already know how to read, it’s a rare opportunity these days. These two examples shows how she cleverly and creatively “convinced” others to go and give in to her requests:

Example 1:
One night, two cousins visited us for dinner. After the eating, holding a book, she sat beside one of my cousins (a 4th year high school student that time and whom she just met because cousin lives in the next city) and their conversation went like this:

DD: Tita, marunong kang bumasa? (Tita, do you know how to read?)
Cousin: Oo naman. (Of course yes.)
While showing cousin a page of her book, DD said: Sige nga. I-try natin ito. (OK. Let’s try this one.)

DH, another cousin and I were witnesses to this exchange and we were laughing so hard when cousin actually read that book to her without realizing that DD actually tricked her to do so!

Example 2:
Recently, DH was a victim too. To encourage her to take studying seriously, DH informed her of his achievements upon graduating from high school. One of which is bagging the “Best in Filipino” award.

Last Saturday, DD was bugging DH to read her a book. Again, let me remind you that she can read. Thus, it’s a luxury if we ever read her a book now. But! After their conversation (read below), he actually gave in to her whim.

DD: Dad, read me a book.
DH: No. Pagod ako. I want to rest. (He is tired and wants to rest so he declined.)
DD: ‘Di ba Best in Filipino ka? Dapat basahan mo ako ng book! (You’re Best in Filipino, right? You should then read me a book!")

HAHAHA! She is smart and witty and very sweet. I love those traits. I just can’t stand it when I fall as her victim by being smart and witty and sweet. Moreover, I won’t be sharing moments like those so as not to implicate myself. Hahahaha!

Now, This is Interesting!

Your Life Path Number is 3
Your purpose in life is to express your unique self.

You are a creative and artistic person with an interesting view on life.

Witty and outgoing, you enjoy sharing your crazy ideas with anyone who will listen.

A total social butterfly, you're the life of any party.

In love, you inspire and enchant your partner. You are often an object of fantasy and desire.

While you are very talented, you sometimes lack the ambition to put your talents in play.

And while your wit carries you a long way, you occasionally use it to mask your true feelings.

Your natural abilities can bring you all the success in the world ... if you let them.

The second sentence of the fifth paragraph definitely made me go LOL!

See DH’s result HERE.

Prayer for a Happy Death by the Late Pres. Aquino | Pres. Cory’s Prayer

This prayer was composed by the late former President Corazon C. Aquino.

Almighty God, most merciful Father
You alone know the time
You alone know the hour
You alone know the moment
When I shall breathe my last.

So, remind me each day,
most loving Father
To be the best that I can be.
To be humble, to be kind,
To be patient, to be true.
To embrace what is good,
To reject what is evil,
To adore only You.

When the final moment does come
Let not my loved ones grieve for long.
Let them comfort each other
And let them know
how much happiness
They brought into my life.
Let them pray for me,
As I will continue to pray for them,
Hoping that they will always pray
for each other.

Let them know that they made possible
Whatever good I offered to our world.
And let them realize that our separation
Is just for a short while
As we prepare for our reunion in eternity.

Our Father in heaven,
You alone are my hope.
You alone are my salvation.
Thank you for your unconditional love, Amen.
