:: Last year. We do it annually to visit my husband’s parents and siblings.

7. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
:: Just being with friends and family.

I skipped the last two questions because we do not celebrate Thanksgiving here in the Philippines. But just the same, I feel grateful and blessed!

Like It? Win It!

Monday, November 23, 2009

Recently, I encountered a site named “Like It? Win It!”. I discovered that it is aimed at helping shoppers shop wisely by finding and listing items which are for sale and posting them at their site. This helps shoppers find the best deals in the market. Aside from the promotional savings that are posted on a regular basis, there are online contests too, where one can win fabulous prizes. I wonder if my luck will work this time. I would like to Win Online Freebies from Like It? Win It! There’s a chance for me to Win handbags, jewelry all free! I am a bag hag, remember? And there’s no need for me to worry because contests are not limited to US residents.

Thank You, Mommy Santa!

Through this blog post, I want to say “THANK YOU!” to my Mommy Santa again. Today, the camera strap that I ordered courtesy of the gift certificate she gave me arrived. That is aside from the National Book Store gift certificates that I found on my office table last month. And to give you a hint, she isn’t just generous. She is one pretty girl. (Aren’t we all? LOL!)

And to give you an idea how my new camera strap looks like, take a lookie:

I am one happy girl today! I just had to figure out how to attach the strap to my camera since its original strap was attached by my brother in-law, Ted, when we bought it about a year ago.

Anyways, thanks again, Mommy Santa! God bless your kind heart!

Trusted Hair Care Products

I have been neglecting my hair, thanks to my laziness. It’s dull and brittle and dry. It badly needs treatment, obviously. I am thinking of having it rebonded again but when I saw this Discount Kerastase advertisement, I am thinking of getting curls instead.I don’t know if it will look good on me though. I have been wanting to curl my hair but my hairstylist refuses because I might get bored of it after some time. So let’s just wait and see. And speaking of hair care, I am also thinking of getting some Aveda hair care products which are highly recommended by my hairstylist. It’s the brand he’s been using for many years now. He claims that Aveda hair care products like their conditioners and styling creams are not only effective but they smell good too! The smell of a product that I use on my hair is important for me because I have allergies and asthma so I will be giving Aveda a try whether I will go for straight or curly hair!

Insurance for our Students

Sunday, November 22, 2009

Next

week, we are going to have our inter-college festival. It is the major student activity where students will be competing in academic, sports and socio-cultural contests. Our students have been busy preparing for this and we are giving our all out support to them. We also remind them that this is a friendly competition but they have to emphasize to their fellow students to be prioritize safety and practice extreme caution. Some years back, a student fell from the top while practicing their pyramid formation for the cheer dance competition. She lost some of her front teeth. Unfortunately, she does not have a health plan like Blue Advantage. Good thing our school is providing insurance for our students in unfortunate events like this. To prevent similar events, we have discouraged our students from performing such acts which they are not really skilled to perform.

On a lighter note, I am very excited about this year’s festival as I am playing a significant role as consultant of the academic contests committee. Yay!

Ups and Downs

I began liking our small city, despite of some important reasons not to. Living here has its ups and downs. Being a small city, many people I see at the church are the same ones I see at school and bump into at the small mall. I also love knowing where to find the best food around the city, being a foodie that I am.

But then, there are things which one can’t find here like an affordable life insurance for example. Good thing the there’s Internet where we can search for cheap online life insurance.

Another reason that makes me feel deprived because of living here these days is not being able to watch this on the big screen:

New Moon Official Poster We have a small cinema here but it does not show the movies during the release dates. *sigh* I hope I can have my chance once we visit Pampanga next month. Crossing fingers here!

ScrapBlog Renovated

I just did a major renovation over my scrapblog.

Like it? Hate it? Hehe. I am liking it’s simplicity and neatness. It was totally inspired by Shaui’s blog (I am her number one fan, remember?) Anyway, the renovation has been planned since last month. It has been on my to-do list along with requesting for life insurance quotes. I just never got around doing anything on my list until this afternoon. Upon waking up from my nap, I stared on a blank document for a looong time, waiting for the blogging inspiration to hit me. It never did. So I took a nap again and upon waking up, no blogging mojo still so I decided to renovate that blog. It was one easy task, thanks to Our Blogger Templates. I used the Embrace Kit, a collaboration between Fei-Fei Stuff and Paislee Press, for my header.

My three other blog will follow including this one. Hopefully, soon!

Prettify

Aside from Christmas, what I love most about December is celebrating my birthday. But gone were the days when my parents spend lavishly to celebrate it. It used to be the most anticipated event in December by my friends back in high school. These days, instead of spending on a big birthday celebration, I now opt to pay for my annual hair treatment. Must be the age eh? Haha! I would love to look and feel good when that day comes. It’s just a once a year event after all. Aside from that, we will be leaving for our annual vacation and how my hair looks should be least of my concern at that time so I better prettify it before we leave.

This year, I scheduled my hair treatment this coming Saturday for the December before our holiday break is loaded with tons of work. Aside from that, I will also be visiting my dentist for some of my upper teeth need filling. I was scheduled to return two months ago but again, I was busy with so many things. (The last time I was there, she shared about the San Diego tooth crown that her son who is studying in the US availed of. It was not as expensive as she expected but it would have been cheaper if she did it herself here.)

Anyway, going back to my hair, I am still undecided whether I’ll cut it short or just trim it a little. But surely, it will be rebonded again (or curled. Who knows!) and recolored.

I can’t wait!

Thursday Thunks on a Sunday (Again)

1. If you won a brand new house in a Dream House Giveaway would you move into it, sell it to pay the taxes and make a profit, rent it out or give it to a family member/friend who might need it?
:: Maybe sell it to pay taxes and make a profit then buy a smaller house for my family.

2. Are you good at billiards?

billiards
:: The first and last time that I played billiards was about 11 years ago so at the moment, no, I am not good at billiards.
3. Does anyone on the planet really want to see Levi Johnston naked in Playgirl (other than when Bristol Palin did)?
:: Maybe.

4. Is your phone ringing right now?
:: Nope.

5. Do you think man has eaten or tried to eat every type of animal on the face of the earth at one point or another? If not, what don't you think man has tried?
:: I believe so. Man’s curiosity is insatiable.

6. The new movie Avatar has been showing sneak peeks and been hyped to the max. Will you see it?
:: Maybe if my husband’s going to see it.

7. If a slightly bigger fish eats a small fish, then a bigger fish immediately eats that one, then an even bigger fish immediately eats that fish and then finally a huge fish eats the one that just ate that fish and it gets caught by you... how many meals will you have from that one fish?
:: What a complicated question this is. It depends on how *huge* the fist I caught is.

8. If you had an appointment with the doctor and all the plants in the office were dead, would you still see the doctor?
:: Maybe. He is not a plant doctor in the first place. Haha!

9. Have you ever seen the number 666 in a dream?

10. "At 20 years of age the will reigns, at 30 the wit, at 40 the judgment."~ Benjamin Franklin.

So what happens at 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100?
:: Beauty, wisdom and freedom

11. Would you want your phone number to be (area code) 123-4567?
:: Sure, why not?

ON Shopping Spree

I was browsing the Net for some discount cell phones which hubby asked to find (because one of his cell phones is almost giving up on him) when I read a twit from Aggie that Old Navy is having a store sale. I got curious so I went and looked. I saw some nice items so being a cheapskate that I am, I took advantage of the sale and bought some stuff for myself, my husband and daughter. Hubby will be surprised but he can’t do anything about it. Haha! I already ordered it and I will be receiving them come December, thanks to Glo and her father in-law. Since it is my first time to buy clothes from ON online, my apprehension is whether I got the right sizes for my daughter and me. I bought us similar shirts and I hope mine are not too small while hers are not too big. Haha! Glo helped me find the correct size for Wes so there’s no problem with that. (Though I know there are willing recipients if the clothes won’t fit him. Haha!)

I can’t wait to finally see my loots. Thanks Glo for all the help!

A Happy Sunday Morning

Happy Sunday morning to y’all! DD and I did something unusual today and that’s getting up very early to attend the 7 AM Mass! It was a nice thing to do for a change. Aside from being able to start the day right, we also met an old teacher of mine with her daughter who is now based in the US. She has been working in a top post production company in California for about 6 years now. She just came home to celebrate the holidays with her parents. She hopes to bring her to the US next year once their papers get approved. It was nice seeing my teacher again. She has retired but she still remember me and my batch mates. It is my hope that their plans to visit the land of milk and honey will be fun and enjoyable for her. She surely deserves that trip!

On another note, DD and I had a hefty breakfast. Happy, happy morning indeed. We went home after running some errands because I still have to accomplish a lot of tasks. She on the other hand, was disappointed to know that her favorite magazine, the Disney Princess for December is not available yet. I bought her the November issue yesterday and she was ecstatic. She is one avid reader. Hopefully, the said magazine will be available next week.

Anyway, that’s how my Sunday morning went so far. I hope you are having a great one too.

Wanted: Writing Mojo

I am a blogger but why oh why, do I find it hard to write an essay?? I have been working on two essays for two days now. As I was typing my thoughts and ideas yesterday, I was thinking “Wow. This is going just fine.” But when I read what I wrote come night time, I was flabbergasted! And disappointed. The thoughts are incoherent in the first place. I have to re-write and restructure the thoughts! And to think I need to have this presented to one of our big bosses today.

It’s going to be a loooong day.

Let’s Get Ready to Party!

It is confirmed. We are going to have an early Christmas break this year! Woot! I can’t wait to finally pack our bags and leave for our annual trip. But before that, I will be attending the university’s annual Christmas party. A meeting to organize the said event is on its way. I anticipate what the theme will be. It will dictate what we’re going to wear and how our gymnasium will be decorated. Surely, it will be transformed into a nice, festive venue for sure. (However, it needs major cleaning first so they have to replace the broken central vacuum motor fast!)

Last year, our theme was Retro and we all came in our retro attire. The gym was filled with large tarpaulins of photos of performers during the retro years. I wore a long (and heavy) maxi dress and I felt beautiful! Thanks to my talented hair and makeup artist. :D

Knowing how creative and resourceful everyone is in the university, this is going to be another party to remember.

Another New Licensed Teacher

Today, I woke up to a very nice SMS coming from a former student leader with whom I work with last year. She shared that she passed the Licensure Exam for Teachers! Woot! I am very proud of her and her contemporaries. Among their group, we are only waiting for another BSN graduate who is due to take his board exams next month. I am very impressed with how they balanced their time between their duties as student leaders and as students. I believe that their hard work and dedication was paid off, that despite the difficulties and challenges that they faced, they are rewarded with this tremendous blessing. I have nothing but praises for them. And I pray that they will all succeed in their chosen field without forgetting the lessons they as student leaders.

Prepared for a Bigger World

Sunday, November 15, 2009

Recently, some alumni of our university made us proud by passing the CPA board exam. Three of the four successful passers were fresh graduates. When we were visited by one of them last month, she shared that she is grateful to her alma mater that prepared her well. She believes that the training provided for her by the institution will let her succeed no matter where she is. We have prepared her for a bigger world, she claimed.

One day, she hopes to work at firms like Las Vegas cpa firm. One of those is KondlerCPA which is a respected leader in the financial account world. It’s commitment is to provide value to their customers as well as their stakeholders. Our new CPA wants to explore and experience working in a firm that deals with varied clientele that includes professionals, developers and contractors, entertainment, Internet, bars and restaurants and more.

Hopefully, our new CPA’s dream will come true. I wish her luck!

A Window Shopper Indeed!

You're a Window Shopper!
You know that shopping's a blast, but you prefer to save your money
You hardly ever give into an impulse buy, unless it's a total steal
You've always got the most money of your friends - and you never have to borrow
And you've got a nice wardrobe too ... of classic pieces that last years!

Well absolutely! My AB Economics degree would have gone to waste if I don’t know the value of my money and how important it is to save. Besides, my parents taught me to set aside some amount from my daily allowance and saved them in a piggy bank when I was young. That I did until I was in college. And I am proud to say that I have been setting aside a portion of my salary for savings since I was employed about 10 years ago!

Being married to a cheapskate made me one too! LOL! Most often, we go for sale and discounted prices. In that manner, we can save up for more important things like our annual travel and our daughter’s college education.

Good Bye Dora. Hello Barbie.

My little girl is not so little anymore. One indicator? She has graduated from Dora to Barbie! She was given two Barbie dolls by my mom some years back and now, she wants more! And even if her birthday celebration will be held four months from now, she already informed me that her birthday party theme should be Barbie. She also reminded her Dad to buy her Barbie magazines during his recent trips. And next month, being Christmas (and shopping )season that is, there’ll be more Barbie stuff added to her stuff.

So Dora, I bid you good bye. As much as I have loved you, I have to let you go.

Hello, Barbie. I don’t really like you but you are very much welcome to stay as long as SHE likes.

Let me say it again (and I know it won’t be the last time): I MISS MY BABY GIRL.

To Learn About Beauty

In our effort to help the out-of-school youth in the city, our university started to offer a 6-month course on cosmetology to qualified scholars. Most of them are out-of-school youth from the depressed areas in the city and nearby provinces. This opportunity allows them to learn skills which can help them earn in no time.

This reminds me of a Cosmetology School founded more than 50 years ago in Minneapolis. It is named Regency Beauty Institute. Regency has grown since it was established and now boasts 30 campuses located in nine states in the US. Their campuses is a reflection of upscale salons and give a highly exceptional education which is beneficial to their students and the salon community. During their stay at the campus, students provide excellent and affordable salon services to the public under the supervision of their instructors. The skilled and equipped Regency graduates can now be found not only in salons but in runways and cruise ships as well.

Getting Ready for Christmas

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

Many unfortunate events have been taking place at the university so the mood is kinda gloomy and blue. To cheer people up and make the office look festive, we decided to spend the entire morning today putting up Christmas decors. Thanks to the reliable boys and men at the office, there is a Christmasy feeling once you visit us. What’s left to do now is to change the curtains and replace the AC filters (which should have been done a looong time ago!).

Aside from decorating, we also planned a Christmas party which will be sponsored by our boss! Woot! It will be held early next month in anticipation of the early Christmas break that we are going to have.

What about you? Have you started decorating and planning for Christmas?

The Game Master’s a Priest!

Sunday, November 8, 2009

Before I discovered blogging, one of the many things that I use my online time on was playing computer games. Strategy and arcade games are my favorites. I know a priest (whom I met when we were still in college) who is also into computer games. During his free time, he searches the web for free mac games. I just discovered this last year when he served as our retreat master. He’s a techie, that I know but it is a surprise to know that aside from spending his free time looking for royalty free music on the Internet, he too, finds playing mac games relaxing. Now that is a nice discovery!

Loots from Chikai

My online friends celebrate their birthdays in style. Always. There’s Glo who threw a grand online birthday party. There were prizes and the grandest? A Coach bag! Many of us were able to *take home* nice loots after the party which began a little before midnight. I for one was able to win a NYX eye shadow.

And there’s Chikai who loves to initiate blog give away whenever there’s a celebration. Hehe. I won $5 from her blog just by correctly guessing whether her baby (who was yet to be born that time) is either a boy or girl. Jayden’s a boy, of course! And a cute one at that. Just recently, I won this during Chikai’s birthday giveaway:

The blush on is so nice and so is the bracelet. And since my little girl loves pink these days, she asked for the bracelet even if it’s too big for her. Thanks, Chi! Happy birthday uli!

Fickle Mindedness

Last week, my daughter and I attended her classmate’s birthday party. She had a blast joining and winning in the parlor games. She also enjoyed the toys and party bags being given away that night. The following day, she started thinking about her own birthday celebration (which is about 4 months from now). And our conversation went like this:

DD: I also want to celebrate my birthday there.
Me: It’s a bit expensive there.
DD: What about at McDonalds?
Me: It’s expensive too.
DD: (Getting a bit frustrated) So where can we celebrate which is not expensive?
Me: Home.
DD: (Too frustrated to reply so she just grunted.)

Haha! Actually, since last month, Joniel (a good family friend) and I have been planning DD’s birthday. We are that excited! Joniel was with me when we surprised DD during her birthday this year. Next year, we want to do something different. Something that will make DD very happy. But then…

Last Saturday was a friend’s son’s birthday. We celebrated it with a reach out in a barangay near the university. We provided food and party bags plus games for about 35 malnourished children there. And when DD learned about that special celebration, as expected, she wanted to celebrate her next birthday that same way!  Talk about fickle mindedness huh. :) So DH advised me to wait until her birth month before finalizing our plans.

But if her kind of celebration changes from time to time, her birthday wish doesn’t. A PS3! I told DH that since I will do the saving up and planning for our daughter’s birthday, he can take charge of his little girl’s birthday wish. :D

Nebulizing is Better.

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

It was one weekend I was looking forward to. However, I had to spend it on my bed, resting, because I had an asthma attack. It was horrible that I had to resort taking a pill which I really, honestly dread because of it’s side effect – palpitation. As much as possible, I try to endure an asthma attack. I feel more horrible when taking pills and using inhalers. Aside from the palpitation, I feel so down too. So most often,I bear an attack.

But thanks to my nebulizer. It’s my savior even if I find nebulizing tiresome compared to just taking a pill. Haha! No palpitation afterwards, no feeling so down too. But then I have to bear it so I try Facebooking while nebulizing. Now I understand why DD make sure that she has plenty of books beside her whenever she’s coughing and needs to be nebulized. :)
