Last August 2010, Johnson and Johnson’s DePuy Orthopedics recalled some 93,000 hip replacement systems because of complaints coming from a large number of people who had DePuy hip implants experienced severe pain and swelling. These hip implants were approved for use in 2005 and are part of a metal-on-metal bearings class of joint replacement systems. In some cases, this kind of replacement system can generate debris through its normal wear and this leads to inflammation and tissue damage. More and more patients have filed hip recall lawsuit since 2007. It has doubled in 2008 and tripled in 2009.
