Keep Calm and Get Fit

Saturday, February 25, 2012

We have all seen it, the varied versions of “Keep Calm” posters. Some are hilarious while others are quite enlightening. By far, this is my most favorite version:Keep Calm and Get Fit

Recently, I have discovered that exercising when feeling stressed, anxious or troubled can greatly help. We all have our own ways of coping with stress – we binge eat, cut our hair, pamper ourselves at the spa and salon or impulsively buy gold coins, bags, shoes, clothes and others. Researchers claim that exercise helps reduce stress, anxiety, and fight depression. It reduces levels of the body’s stress hormones stimulates the production of endorphins which is the body’s natural painkillers and mood elevators.

Sure, I eat and shop when feeling down but I am happy now that I have discovered that exercising can greatly lift my spirits up too.

I actually found something on Pinterest that inspired me and more importantly, motivated me to really do something.

Aside from trimming down my waist, another fitness goal that I have this year is to tone and strengthen my arms. They are not as firm and strong as I like them to be but I know that regular workout and weight-lifting can help. I have two sets of two-year old dumbbells which are relatively light. Since last week, I have been reading articles and bought some instructional materials on dumbbells exercises for the arms and I think I need heavier dumbbells. So yesterday at the mall, while the husband was at the hardware store looking for new wiring duct, I went to the fitness shop and checked out their dumb bells. When the husband found me, he reminded me that we have to bring home a two weeks’ worth of groceries too and we’re commuting. It means that the dumbbells, which are quite heavy have be bought next week. Oh well. They can wait. Winking smile

Types of Grills

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

Grill types:

Charcoal grills.
These type of grills are used with charcoal briquettes, wood or may be a combination of both. Cooking over charcoal can be time consuming. Once lighted, cooking can be done in 15 to 30 minutes. Food cooked on charcoal grill, it retains an intense smoked flavor. Some grills have air vents that controls cooking temperatures.

Gas grills. This type of grill needs liquid propane (LP) or natural gas in order to cook. Gas grills is less expensive per use compared to charcoal. It also ignites fast thus, cooking can be done after about 10 minutes of preheating. .

Electric grills. Electric grills rely on electricity to operate, as the name implies. This is ideal if you live in an apartment and can’t accommodate charcoal or gas.

Smokers. These are available both in electric and charcoal models. Smokers can cook up to 50 pounds of food at a time.

Something to Mark Our 10th Year

Tuesday, February 7, 2012

This year is more special to my husband and me since we are going to celebrate a big milestone – our 10th wedding anniversary. We do not have definite plans on how to commemorate the event. We have many options like renew our wedding vows and hold a feast or travel somewhere. But one thing is relatively sure: we do like to find a new set of wedding bands.
Princess Diamond Anniversary Band
My husband has gained weight and for some time now, his wedding ring does not fit him though he insists on wearing them. On the other hand, I just want another piece of jewelry. Now, don’t get me wrong. Jewelries are not my thing. In fact, I only own a few courtesy of mom and I super rarely use them. The one that gets used daily is our wedding ring and a new one to celebrate our 10th year is going to be as important and significant as the first one that he gave me 10 years ago.

Anyway, we have started looking but I do not have a definite design yet. I will let you know once we find THE one.
