July and Weddings

Friday, June 22, 2012

Oh how time flies. That’s the thought that came to mind when I checked the calendar this morning. June is about to end and July is just around the corner. We breezed through June with all the activities pertaining to the opening of the school year and for July, our weekends are already filled with social functions – christening, a birthday, a welcome party and a big wedding. I am excited to attend all four but I am preparing most for the last one, the wedding. It will be the day that one of my closest friends will tie the knot and I will stand as one of her matrons of honor. She asked for my help in the preparation and along with the

EventSolutions.com event planning, we hope that everything will go as planned. Unfortunately, I still need to lose some weight to fit into my gown. All these dining out with her during meetings do not help! And it is surprising that she has no weight problems even if we’re eating the same food every time we meet. What a lucky bride!

Our Home-Based Businesses

Friday, June 15, 2012

Recently, some of my friends and I have ventured into small home-based businesses. One of us is into buying and selling secondhand toys. Another one is selling handmade clips, bows and headbands. On the other hand, I have been into making and selling souvenirs, charms and accessories made of polymer clay. Aside from giving us extra income, our home-based businesses keep us creative and do what we enjoy doing. Personally, aside from conducting more research on how to run a small business, I would also need to look for

insurance for small business owners, per advice of a friend. He is my usual go-to person when it comes finances and honestly, I would have not thought of that if he did not mention it.

Over Thinking

Yesterday, I had to finally give in and take a medication that I have been postponing for months. I usually suffer from migraine attacks which are triggered by stress, not getting enough sleep and my monthly period. Most often, I can prevent and manage it but this week, this triggered the attack:

over thinking
It has been a way of life that I am trying to unlearn. Over thinking. Over analyzing. When I realized that this habit has been making me miserable and lose sleep (and prone to migraine), I tried and prayed that I may learn to unlearn it. And I do slip once in a while, like this week. And when I slip and realize that I am going back to the old habit, I pause and pray and sleep. Eventually, I wake up feeling much, much better. Just like this morning.

The Perfect Gift

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

While I usually have something up my sleeve for the husband on Father’s Day and his birthday every year, I am afraid that I have nothing special planned for until now for this year. And to think that Father’s Day is just around the corner. One friend shared that she will be giving her husband with a wallet that blocks RFID. Since contactless cards are not very prevalent yet, a thief can easily read the account number, expiration date and other information in a credit or debit card using a handheld gadget. Thus, I think that her choice of gift is a wise decision and I am thinking of getting my husband the same type of wallet too.

The 4 Cs of Good Diamond Engagement Rings

Friday, June 8, 2012

diamond ringPrior to the whirlwind of activities and preparations leading to the wedding day, a groom-to-be first faces the overwhelming task of finding the perfect engagement ring. Aside from being a proof of the engagement, the ring is a sign too, of ones’ willingness to commit to a lifetime love and companionship, for richer or for poorer, to that one great love. An engagement ring is an investment. Thus, one must be very meticulous and do an extensive research before paying for it. Also, it will be kept and worn by the bride for the many years to come, so the groom-to-be must make sure that he is indeed buying something that she will treasure.

If you are going to pop THE question very soon, you must know and be familiar with a lot of things like oval cut diamonds 1,3 carat diamonds and many others. It can be very intimidating and overwhelming, especially for men who are not familiar with the terms but reading, researching and asking around can greatly help. It pays to know too that there are four Cs that characterize good man made diamond engagement rings. These are:

Cut. This term refers to the angles and proportions of the diamond and the only C that the cutter has a control over. Experts say that of all the four Cs, Cut is the most important because it is what gives the diamond its fiery brilliance. For a diamond to be labeled as well-cut, it should reflect the light from one facet to another. Also, it must project the light through the top of the stone to give the diamond its sparkle. The cut must be taken into consideration and note that diamonds cut too deep or too shallow does not look that elegant as the light leaks through the bottom or sides of the it.

Color. Diamonds are available in varied colors. Its color is scaled from D which is colorless, to Z which is light yellow. Colorless diamonds are rare and expensive while white ones are said to be popular. When choosing a diamond’s color, make sure that you are aware of your fiancĂ©e’s preference so as to buy the perfect color.

Clarity. A diamond that is clear and has fewer imperfections is more expensive. Color is measured according to a scale, and one must take note that with SI1 and SI2, there are slight inclusions but are not visible to the naked eye. Inclusions by the way are small fractures or tiny minerals which are found in the diamond. Obviously, the fewer inclusions on the diamond, the better.

Carat. Carat is the terms used to refer to the weight of a diamond. A heavier diamond is more expensive.

If you have read this prior to a trip to a denver jewelry store to buy an engagement ring, you are assured that you won’t feel lost and confused once you talk to the jeweler.

Fathers and Gifts

Friday, June 1, 2012

Now that Father’s Day is just around the corner, many of us have already came up with the nice and appropriate gifts for the special men in our lives. Personally, however, I am quite clueless on what to give my father and my husband. Sure a box of expensive cigars plus a new crossword puzzle can already make my father happy, the husband, on the other hand is a different case. It has always been a challenge to buy a gifts for him as until now, I can’t figure out what to give him. However, he’s always happy and grateful for whatever well-though gift that I give him.

Anyway, I still have time to figure this out. His birthday is upcoming too and wish me luck on that too! For the mean time, let me show you a very nifty and quick Father’s Day idea:
